JOYCE’S STORY

Joyce and John Haas

Joyce Haas and her husband, John

Joyce Haas is a Centre County native who graduated from Bald Eagle Area High School.  After winning an agricultural scholarship (as Pennsylvania Honey Queen), she attended Penn State, where she earned her Bachelors Degree and Masters Equivalency.  Joyce lives with her husband John in Patton Township.  They have a daughter, three sons, and three grandchildren.

Joyce has taught in both the Bald Eagle Area and State College school districts in the fields of English, Speech, and Special Education.  She taught Speech at Penn State as she worked in her Masters field.  Her 15 years of teaching also included teaching remedial reading in a junior high school in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

Joyce and her daughter, Paige, both earned their pilot licenses at a young age.  Joyce earned hers at age 21 and Paige at age 16.  They both flew conventional and World War II aircraft.  Joyce previously worked with US Airways as a Customer Service Agent and for Ford Motor Company as a Product Specialist.

She has dedicated her life to public service through volunteer activities with the Republican Party, The Chamber of Commerce, United Way, The Diabetes Association, and many other community activities.

Joyce currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of PA.  She and current chairman, Rob Gleason of Cambria County, have worked to revise party activities.  They have made the committee leave the back rooms and bring endorsements into the public eye.  They have brought transparency to the process. They have worked to bring forth candidates who support the principles of the party – lower taxes, lower spending, smaller government.
